Double crossed lovers fatally assault a pregnant woman

A five months pregnant Inyathi woman was murdered by two of her alleged lovers who teamed up and fatally assaulted her.
The Two lovers accused her of infidelity and failing to tell them who between them had impregnated her, it has been learnt.
The incident occurred last week at the Korna homestead in Inyathi and the two accused persons have since appeared in court. The two Abthina Mbano (31) and Mali Justice (32) appeared before Nkayi magistrate Mr Thabekhulu Dube facing charges of murder as defined in section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23. They were remanded in custody to 26 January 2010.
The court, through the prosecutor, Mr Maxwell Hapanyengwi, heard that Mbano and Justice, who is employed by the Ministry of Youth Development Indigenisation and Empowerment, both from Inyathi fatally assaulted Nozwelo Gumede whose age was not given and was five months pregnant.
They assaulted her with bricks and logs all over the body.
The two accused persons, the court heard, went to Gumede’s home and upon arrival they inquired why she claimed that they impregnated her. They further alleged that she was morally loose as evidenced by the fact that she did not know the exact person who impregnated her.
The two forced her to tell them who impregnated her and further demanded to know how they did it. Gumede, however, refused to pay heed to some of their demands and they assaulted her with Mali holding her while Mbano beat her with a log all over the body for concealing some of the information they wanted to know.
Mbano later picked a brick and struck Gumede on the head and she collapsed. The two ran away leaving Gumede unconscious. She later died as a result of the injuries she sustained during the attack.
A report was made to the police in Nkayi leading to the arrest of the two accused persons and their subsequent appearance in court.
