A tribute to Nicholas madziBaba Zacharia

There is no doubt that Nicholas Zacharia, known in the entertainment circles as “Senior Lecturer†remains as one of the most prolific musicians of our time.
In addition to making a name for himself in the industry as a consistent composer, he has also become a fatherly figure in the sungura genre and his composure and expertise has seen many looking up to him for advice and training.
Many musicians, alive and departed, passed through his hands and his tutelage has been a cut above the rest.
Names that easily come to mind include Cephas Karushanga, System Tazvida, Alick Macheso easily come to mind. Always clad in modest attire, he talks less about others and his achievements.
Ironically enough, despite all these achievements, Madzibaba is not a dancer. When on stage, half the time, he would just be nodding his head, shaking a bit while playing his guitar. Rarely do you see the man dancing along to his own rhythm
However this time, he could pull a surprise when he descends on Mutare’s Chapter One Leisure Centre tonight for a show with the versatile dancing group, Mambokadzi.
The show, would be part of the joint’s one-year anniversary celebrations that is expected to ignite the place alive with dance and music.
Madzibaba is expected to thrill the crowd with some of his hit songs that includes Ndine Mabvunzo, Mabvi Nemagokora and he is certainly going to get all the support he needs from the dancing queens.
Chapter One Leisure Centre owner, Tendai Chitova said the show was part of the joint’s celebrations in turning one.
The joint opened its doors last year to the public last year. Boasting of an upmarket leisure centre that includes conference facilities, sports bars and pool facilities, it has become popular with revelers from Mutare, its surrounding areas and even others who come from as far as Harare.
“We saw it befitting to invite Madzibaba to grace our celebrations which would be ongoing until December. There is no better way of thanking our clients than giving them a feel of good music,” he said.
On the other hand, Mambokadzi is no fluke in the music industry and it is one of the few dancing groups that has been consistent over the years.
Despite the challenges that the industry has been going through it has remained intact. It however remains to be seen how the two would rock Mutare this Saturday evening.
