A nine-year-old Goromonzi girl died last Sunday after being stung by a scorpion at her grandmother’s homestead.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesman, Assistant Inspector Godfrey Mubaiwa, confirmed the death at Ngazimbi Village under Chief Chikwaka.

Asst Insp Mubaiwa said Renika Kamboti of Goromonzi Estate Farm visited her grandmother, Mbuya Renika Musinde (68), in Ngazimbi Village last Saturday.

"On the afternoon of the same day the girl was playing alone within her granny’s yard when she suddenly screamed that she had been stung by a scorpion," said Asst Insp Mubaiwa.

The grandmother rushed to the scene and saw a big scorpion disappearing into the grass.

She took the girl to her father, Goodmore Kamboti (29), at Goromonzi Estate Farm and by that time the girl’s hand had turned black from the palm to the shoulder.

No medical attention was sought and the girl died the following day.

Asst Insp Mubaiwa appealed to parents and guardians to quickly seek medical attention in cases involving stings and bites by animals. — HR.
