Woman scalds husband with boiling hot porridge

Appearing before Mrs Lindiwe Mbizvo, Sijabulile Moyo pleaded guilty to domestic
violence as defined in Section 3 (1) (a) as read with Section 4 (1) of the
Domestic Violence Act Chapter 15:10 “Physical Abuse’’.
She was remanded in custody to October 5 when a medical report would be
presented to ascertain the extent of the injuries. The prosecutor, Mrs Fiona
Denhere-Ncube, told the court that on September 21 at around 3pm the accused
returned home from a meeting in town and started preparing lunch.
Her husband, Qiniso Tshuma (25), came into the house and a misunderstanding
ensued between them with Moyo accusing Tshuma of having affairs with three women
that live in the area.
The argument turned ugly when Tshuma struck Moyo across the face with an open
palm. Moyo responded by pouring a pot of boiling porridge that was on the stove
on Tshuma, resulting in him sustaining serious burns on his arms, hands and
stomach.
Due to the injuries, the complainant is having difficulties walking. Tshuma was
rushed to Pumula Clinic for treatment where he was advised to go to the police,
leading to the arrest of the accused. Police referred Tshuma to Mpilo Hospital
for treatment.
Meanwhile, appearing before the same court, a 27-year-old Pumula man was slapped
with a US$50 fine or three months in prison after he was found driving a
commuter omnibus without the requisite five years’ driving experience.
This comes as police have launched a crackdown on public transport drivers who
do not have five years’ driving experience as required by the law.
Faro Sithole was convicted on his own plea of guilt when he appeared before Ms
Lindiwe Mbizwo facing charges of driving a public service vehicle without five
years’ driving experience as defined in Section 4 (a) of the Road Traffic
(Public Service Vehicle) regulation 2006 SI 168/06.
The prosecutor, Mr Tony Kamujariwa, told the court that on September 21 at about
8am the omnibus the accused was driving was stopped by police at a roadblock
along Khami Road with 15 passengers aboard.
After examination of his driver’s licence, he was found not to have five
years’ driving experience as required by the law, leading to his arrest.
