Customers cry foul as tokoloshies at flea market steal money from wallets

The woman identified as Mai Kudzai who operates a vending stall near a Zesa
office in Magwegwe together with her husband has allegedly been sending goblins
to her customers whenever they buy from her or ask for change.
One of the couple's victims, Beatrice Moyo, said she asked for US$100 change
from Mai Kudzai. Upon being given the change, Moyo went to Tagarira supermarket
in the same suburb and bought groceries worth $10.
She said on her way home she realised that $90 had vanished from her pocket.
Money also mysteriously disappeared from the till point in the supermarket where
Moyo had spent $10 on groceries.
"When the till operator wanted to change another customer she was stunned to
find the till empty! When she could not explain where the money had gone,
management transferred her to another shop," said the source.
A worker at the supermarket also confirmed the incident. Moyo said she
confronted Mai Kudzai and told her that she money that Mai Kudzai gave her as
change had mysteriously disappeared.
"I asked for $100 change from Mai Kudzai. After I got the change I bought
groceries at Tagarira supermarket. Before I got home $90 dollars had vanished
from my pockets and I confronted Mai Kudzai about the incident. Money also
disappeared from the till point where I paid for my groceries and I heard that
the till operator has been fired for allegedly stealing money," said Moyo.
Residents who spoke to our news crew said Moyo was not Mai Kudzai's first
victim. They claimed that Mai Kudzai and her husband have over the years been
notorious for 'sending goblins to steal other people's money'.
"Mai Kudzai has goblins. Whenever she gives you change the money will disappear.
Moyo moved to the suburb recently so she does not know the two quite well," said
one resident who requested anonymity.
Mai Kudzai said she was a sworn Christian and people wanted to tarnish her name.
"I'm a woman of God and these people are just trying to tarnish my image. I have
never had goblins in my life. This is just news to me," she said.
Her husband also defended her saying they survived on selling vegetables at
their stall and if they had goblins they would be driving cars by now.
"If we had goblins we would be driving fancy cars. It's nonsense that people
claim we are stealing from them. All we can say is that we had nothing to do
with the incident," he said
