A Zimbabwe Revenue Authority official was arrested on the spot after he was allegedly caught red-handed pocketing US$1

that he had received from a kombi driver at a tollgate along Harare-Chirundu road. Alert police officers who were in the kombi observed Robert Chiyangwa (29) allegedly conniving with Cowen Kadziya, a kombi driver to pay $1 instead of $2 paid by kombis at the tollgates.

The officers in the kombi pounced on Chiyangwa after they were allegedly convinced he had committed an offence by accepting fees paid by private motorists instead of $2 for kombis.

Chiyangwa has since appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Mrs Tendai Muchini, who remanded him out of custody to November 17 on $20 bail.

Meanwhile the herald reported that some Government officials and Members of Parliament are refusing to pay tollgate fees recently introduced as part of resource mobilisation to improve the road network, a parliamentary portfolio committee has said.

The introduction of tollgate fees has been the subject of altercations in some instances, as senior Government officials and MPs refuse to pay the fees.
Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Transport, Infrastructural Development and Communi-cation Mr Blessing Chebundo said this while presenting a report on the operations of the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority.
