“HELL hath no fury like a woman scorned.” So goes the fairy tale-like story of a police officer stationed in Hwange who pleaded with the court to protect him from his abusive wife whom he said had transformed their matrimonial home into a living hell.

The woman accused him of infecting her with Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), which the man denied, saying she was the one who infected him instead.

Misheck Sakala of Empumalanga suburb in the coal mining town of Hwange, told how his wife, Linnet Ncube, 24, forced him out of their matrimonial home as she would beat him up at any given time. The two now live in separation.

“I want to plead with this honourable court to help protect me from her. She is very abusive and violent as she always assaults me and even cuts my clothes with a scissors,” Sakala told magistrate Sharon Rosemani.

The wife pleaded guilty to physical abuse and told the court she deliberately became violent because Sakala has numerously refused to accompany her for treatment for the alleged STI.

“He infected me with an STI and the infection has been recurring but he has been refusing to go for treatment with me.”

Ncube was sentenced to three months in jail but the sentence was suspended. One month was set aside for five on condition she doesn’t commit a similar crime while the remaining two were suspended on condition she completes 70 hours of community service at St Patrick’s Hospital.

Ncube has been convicted by the same court before for assaulting Sakala. Prosecuting, Alfred Mzizi said the couple fought by the Hwange Police Station gate on May 21.

“On May 21 the complainant went to the accused’s workplace to inquire about his clothes she had taken with her.

“He found her wearing his T-shirt. He asked her to accompany him to the police station so they could solve their problems,” said Mzizi.

The court heard that Ncube attempted to flee when they reached the gate but Sakala grabbed her. She then pelted stones and hit him on the cheek and arm, said the prosecutor.
